The NTUA-AMDC, as part of the Restart project (WP2), organized a visual arts exhibition by photographer Ilias Bourgiotis, titled ‘Lavreotiki: Traces of an Era’, at the LTCP. This exhibition is part of a series of cultural events aimed at promoting the unique mining history and identity of Lavreotiki. It comes along with the presentation of an edited album by the LTCP, showcasing Bourgiotis' photographs as part of his extensive research in the region. The title Lavreotiki: Traces of an Era not only reflects the exhibition's content but also aligns with the album. Bourgiotis' pictures narrate, through traces, the harsh, dangerous, yet highly productive lives of the miners in the area on a historical level, while simultaneously offering fascinating post-industrial landscapes of Lavreotiki that hold great cultural value.
Invitation:
Photographic Album’S Presentation & Opening of Photo Exhibition of Ilias Bourgiotis
On Sunday, December 1, at 6:30 p.m., the LTCP will have the pleasure of presenting its new publication, a photographic album by the significant photographer Ilias Bourgiotis, released last summer. In its pages, a series of black-and-white pictures of the ex-mining landscapes of Lavreotiki are displayed in the personal, poetic way of the artist, under the title “Lavreotiki: Traces of an Era.”
The album will be presented by D. Kaliampakos, NTUA professor and vice president of the NTUA-MDC, Aris Maragopoulos, writer, critic, translator, and editor, as well as the artist himself.
The book’s presentation will be accompanied by the homonymous photographic exhibition of the artist, which will open simultaneously and last until December 13. This way, the audience will have the chance to enjoy the vigorous and sensitive pictures in large format.
Ilias Bourgiotis, with numerous exhibitions in Greece and abroad and several publications in his CV, has also spent many years collaborating with our great director Theo Angelopoulos. He has traveled all across Greece, the Balkans, Mediterranean countries, and several Eastern countries, capturing natural, urban, and human landscapes. Bourgiotis has developed a completely personal style in his shots, penetrating the depth of each subject. Or, according to the photographer himself, “My images are a puzzle of great human stories.”
This collection is no exception. The selected images of Lavreotiki will move everyone connected to this land, to post-industrial landscapes, every friend of fine visual art, and ultimately, everyone who comes into contact with this project.
Visiting hours: 10:00 - 15:00 & 18:00 - 21:00 until December 13, 2024.
